Environmentally Sustainable Design gaining traction.

Description

Boroondara Council have also subscribed to the Built Environment Sustainability Scorecard (BESS) which is a sustainability tool managed by the Council Alliance for Sustainable Built Environment (CASBE) which Boroondara is also a member of. The tool is specifically designed to be used at the town planning stage and it guides applicants through the different ESD categories.

Boroondara is continuously engaging with other councils on many fronts including electric vehicle charging, the National Construction Code, Water Sensitive Urban Design and ESD targets and implementation.

Support greater sustainability measures through the planning permit assessment process through the recruitment of an Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) Officer (EFT 0.4) to implement ESD tools for the assessment of planning applications and contribute to policy development.

    New Environmental Sustainable Design (ESD) Officer engaged

    Planning applications of 2 or more dwellings are requested to submit an ESD report outlining building sustainability initiatives, these application are then assessed against what constitutes ‘Best Practice’ which is an ESD target adopted by many Victorian councils with some variation.
