New Integrated Water Management infrastructure program progressing.

Description

Following the completion of large scale stormwater harvesting projects at Grace Park and Gordon Barnard Reserve, this project will identify, assess and prioritise the next IWM project opportunities in Boroondara. Typically IWM projects look at ways to manage the whole water cycle to deliver multiple benefits including reducing stormwater pollution to waterways, a reduction in drinking water use, increased greening to reduce urban heat and flood mitigation.

Water is vital for life. It is critical to our hydration and the hygiene of our bodies, buildings and streets. It sustains our parks, gardens, waterways and wildlife. It is a vital input for the food we eat and the goods and services we rely on.

Across the lower Yarra catchment, the cumulative impact of frequent and large flows of untreated stormwater is devastating to river health and in-stream ecology. Stormwater quality can be improved through reducing pollution at the source, and also by slowing and treating the flow prior to discharge into receiving waters.
