Improving water efficiency.

Description

Water efficiency retrofits at community facilities is underway to reduce drinking water use and increase water efficiency. These projects have included:

  • Upgraded rainwater harvesting infrastructure
  • Utilising rainwater for toilet flushing
  • Irrigation to reduce our use of valuable drinking water

The New Kew Recreation Centre is undergoing a major redevelopment, with the final design to include:

  • Storage of the pool waste water to be re-used for toilet flushing
  • Water-efficient fittings and fixtures
  • Rainwater harvesting to be re-used for landscape irrigation

Other projects are currently being planned for future completion.

    Fifteen community facilities have been upgraded

    Over the last two years, fifteen community facilities have been upgraded. These have primarily consisted of new or upgraded rainwater harvesting systems; tanks and pumps to supply toilet flushing and watering of outdoor spaces. This has included a range of facilities including the bowls club and tennis clubs at Camberwell Sports Ground, Lynden Park Recreation Facility, Boroondara Netball Centre, North Balwyn Tennis Club and Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
