Generally speaking, small plant and equipment is powered using fuel (i.e. diesel and petrol).
Many tools have now been replaced with an electric option. Electric options are considered for every powered tool purchase.
Tools like hedges, blowers, and brush cutters have been replaced (see image: electric blower, whipper-snipper and hedge trimmer).
Council is also purchasing GreenPower at all sites. This means when charging the equipment, renewable energy is used (solar or wind generated electricity).
There are currently some challenges with weight and size of the electric powered tools. As batteries become smaller and more powerful this may allow us to further expand purchasing of these items.
What's left to do?
Continue to transition small plant and equipment to electric
We will continue to seek opportunities to power with electric power source as they come up for replacement, and wear suitable product is available in the market.
